About Us
Our Story
Established in 2021, the Melbourne Muslim Seminary (MMS) was created to meet the educational needs of a growing Muslim community by offering high-quality Islamic learning grounded in tradition and relevance. Its flagship on-site program, Muslim Essentials, introduces students to the core sciences of Islam, enabling them to fulfill their religious obligations and engage with their faith in a meaningful way. Taught by scholars trained in both Western and Islamic institutions, the program balances academic rigour with accessibility.
Since its launch, MMS has expanded significantly—relocating to a larger venue to accommodate increasing demand and extending the Muslim Essentials program from a one-year to a two-year curriculum. This growth reflects MMS’s ongoing commitment to nurturing knowledgeable, spiritually grounded Muslims equipped to contribute positively to their communities.
Our Commitment
The Melbourne Muslim community is diverse and MMS aims to reflect this diversity. We seek to benefit from the plurality of thought and practice that defines each unique tradition by drawing strength, relevance, and resilience from this multiplicity. Thus, the individual stories of the academic staff, student cohort, and affiliated community comprise the heart of the Seminary’s focus.
MMS seeks to contribute to a renewal of confidence in Muslim faith scholarship, to maintain a reasoned balance between temporal beauty and ageless truth, and to foster lasting contribution.
